Floaty floor length gowns, intricate detailing and “high fur,” mark this week’s Paris Haute Couture shows, where some of the fashion’s best known names present some of the world’s most luxurious garments. Paris Haute Couture week runs from July 5-9 showcasing French and Italian designers like Glambattista Valli, Giorgio Armani, Schiaparelli, Versace, Christian Dior, and Chanel, Zuhair Murad and Valentino and more. Here are some of our favorite shows from this year’s Paris Haute Couture Week Fall/Winter shows.
Versace kicked off haute couture in style. Michelle Rodriquez, Naomi Campbell, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley joined celebrity attendees Sunday at the start of couture week. Donatella Versace delivered her strongest show yet for her couture line since its 2012 relaunch. The new Atelier Versace collection was showcased on a runway embellished with multicolored orchids. The collection is a celebration of dresses in frayed chiffon, asymmetrical bustiers scattered with Swarovski crystals, maxi dresses, and mini tunics with metallic embroidery, evening dresses and flirty crowns. Colors were subtle and feminine-dove gray, soft apple green, fuchsia, pinks and flashes of tangerine.
Lupita Nyong’o, Olivia Palermo and Emily Blunt sparkled at Christian Dior’s vivid couture show set in a timeless conservatory in Paris. It was the highlight of Monday’s Paris Fashion Week shows, which also included Schiaparelli. Christian Dior models strutted in flowing white dresses, tight waisted coats with ankle length puffy skirts and oversized capes. Dior designer Raf Simons says, everything is connected: the coats with a fur sleeve are reminiscent of medieval capes, the fluid chiffon dresses layered under a bejeweled cage top display a clear hint of Gothic art while evening gowns look like a modern reinterpretation of the luxurious Belle Époque dresses. Colors include: white, black, pink, green, orange, fuchsia, light blue and burgundy.
Diamonds, celebrities and iconic couture emerged around a massive casino table on Tuesday for Chanel’s spectacular fashion show. Guests were led to their seats in a giant recreated casino, complete with roulette tables and functioning gambling machines. But the highlight of the entire show was when Kristen Stewart and a diamond encrusted Julianne Moore walked out through an arch both wearing Chanel couture. Fellow gamblers’ placing bets included singers Rita Ora and Vanessa Paradis and model Lara Stone, who were there to showcase Chanel’s latest jewelry collection. The collection included: Coco Chanel’s famed skirt suit jacket made via 3D printing, quilted jackets were seamless, shoes were a standout-backless stilettos with a split tongue. Pieces were tailored with feathered fringed long cocktail dresses, evoking the famed roaring 20s.
Elie Saab’s Haute Couture collection celebrates the maison’s heritage and chronicles through an imaginary journey, the creative path of designer Elie Saab, from his debut in high fashion up to now. Gold is the thread running through the entire collection. Models wore lace gowns with embellishments, boxy clutches with chain straps. The collection culminates with a total gold look in lace and crystals. The collection by far screams glamour and high fashion, from beginning to end models dazzled on the runway.
